Personal Statement
I am a hard-working and enthusiastic person. The role I am looking for would be to utilize my current skills and experience working within GIS. I have been working within GIS teams for the past six and a half years and I really enjoy it, it’s an area that I strive on learning more about. I have been self-motivated and enthusiastic throughout my career, I have proven myself to be an adaptable efficient professional with excellent communications skills, and I am capable of working on my own initiative or within a team.  I show the initiative to take ownership of my work with forward set goals. I will show respect and Integrity at all times. I also have a CAN DO attitude towards getting in and getting the job done. I am motivated at all times and I believe this reflects on my colleagues and helps us as a team to move forward.

My role with Open spatial was to act as a member of the Support team. The company sold Enlighten and Munsys to stakeholders Australia wide, we then trained them how to use it and kept a support site for the clients to use whenever they were having problems. The problems would range from issues with the software, development or programming problems or the client would just not know how to do something and my job would be to show them how. The final problem would be a request they to have something included in the next upgrade. 

My role was to deal with these problems and delegate them to certain members of the team to deal with, this may be the developers or programmers or it would be up to me to teach the client how to solve their problem. I would be the communicator between the client and our staff, and I would manage the workload and keep ownership at all times.

To be able to do my job I had to learn these softwares and systems myself, and so the role was challenging to be learning and teaching at the same time. During the end of my role with Open Spatial, I was involved in the QA of the new software upgrade. I was testing it all and writing the Guidelines, which would be forwarded on to all our Stakeholders later in the year when it was released, this helped me gain a skill in ‘Creative Writing’.

I worked in Water Infrastructure Services team, this means working on projects and bids that come in, but I also work with Environment, Ecology, Mining, Rail and many other parts of the company, Proving my GIS assistance to them in a timely and accurate matter. My role involved skills such as time management, prioritisation, problem solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, high experience of interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, I’m enthusiastic and proactive and lastly a great team player but I have also have a high amount of experience in working independently for AECOM.

GIS Analyst
NSW Government (Australia)
June 2011 – September 2011

·         Adding new data including speed zones, crashes and sites where a speed has been monitored.
·         Creating cartographic maps
·         Filing data so it can be easily used and found.

Currently my role is to add data that shows all the speed zones in NSW. It also includes adding detailed attributes about the deaths in that area and deciding if a site selection needs to be put in the vicinity. Another element of my role involves adding points that show where a car has been placed to measure the speed of people on that road. I also have helped in setting up a system to file the photos and dates we collect for this project and also to create cartographic maps on a regular basis.

GIS Specialist

·         Creating cartographic maps for analysis on an Environmental project.
·         Creating and manipulating data for both Mapinfo and ESRI.

My position was to liaise with Environmental Scientists, Engineers, Project managers and the GIS team on a daily basis to create an excellent and accurate GIS database.  I got requests from across the company daily for different projects to create cartographic maps, digitise pipes and/or assets into areas and also to show risk assessment maps for re-growth and remnant areas across QLD. Another element of my role was to create and manipulate data for mining projects, I had to manage and keep up to date all incoming data and current/old data. We work with so many different companies that the data can sometimes get mixed up or lost; my job is to keep it orderly and to know where absolutely everything is.

An experience I can remember is when my colleagues were away or working in different offices and for one month, I handled the GIS for the entire floor on my own. This was a daunting task but an excellent one, where I was able to prove my time management and prioritisation skills. Another skill I’ve excelled in is my communication. I have to make sure I communicate with all my stakeholders and negotiate on when their project will be completed.  I was working 60-hour weeks, but I was able to finish each and every job on the date that I said I would, and keep everybody happy. My team leader was extremely happy with me, and I felt it really proved my skills as a GIS Specialist to work alone or within a team.

GIS Smallworld Administrator

July 2010 – December 2010

·         Editing electricity data in Smallworld and changing to solar.
·         Creating any new geography.
·         Editing/adding street names and numbers throughout Melbourne that have changed in the last three years.
·         Digitising new households joining Jemena.
·         Adding the Inverter rating, model/make and Installation company details to each household.
·         Editing or adding new Public lighting throughout the city.

My role at Jemena was to keep all the information we have in Smallworld up-to-date. I also cleared all backlog for the team, this included check and adding details to our electricity data on our live system. So the main aspects of my role was to change any households to Solar, add any new models or makers to the systems, making sure the Installed Capacity is correct, correcting all street addresses and house numbers. 

Also a part of my job is to use paper plans drawn by engineers and to confirm that the pylon is digitised in the correct place.

On a day-to-day basis I was using my cartographic skills to create maps for the team.

This was a contract role covering for the GIS manager whilst he was away. It was very enjoyable and the team were fantastic to work with. I was happy to work in a role where I could use my current skills and give ideas. I left, as my visa is required to live in a regional area and work in agricultural work for three months, so I had to go and pursue this.

Link Water

·         Digitization of assets onto Link Water’s spatial dataset.
·         Use of SQL expressions and VB data.
·         Analysing the data and liaising with Operations to make sure more information is accurate and verified.
·         Assist in the continuing development of The Corporate Spatial Information in GIS Link Water.
·         The analysis, manipulation and management of spatial datasets using ESRI ArcGIS suite.
·         Creating cartographic maps for the CEO and board of Directors with regards to HSE and Land Manager.

My role with Link Water was the management of Spatial Information, utilising ArcGIS & Mapinfo. I carry out map-based tasks and help with the management of the Spatial System Structure and Operations & Maintenance. Creating cartographic Maps, Cartographic principles involved colour theory, map-user theory; figure-ground, line weights, textural use and font use. I handled all Mapping queries; this involved creating A4 to A0 Maps regularly for the Directors and other management onto a Link Water Template that I also created so if we had more queries and were busy then it wouldn’t take too much time. Within these maps the details would show layers of Link Waters Assets including Land & Coast, Major Roads, Pipelines and facilities.

Also I worked with the engineers and surveyors to add new assets and edit current ones in ArcMap. This required a high attention to detail.

I also helped manage the Spatial Data we receive send out and update in Arc Catalogue, this requires adding Metadata.

(I worked in two roles with Infoterra).
Lidar Analyst

·         Systems used in this role: GIS, Desktop Maps, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, Arc, Microstation V8, Terrasolid and Global Mapper.
Regular involvement in production meetings improved my skills in addressing groups and furthered my understanding of the methods we can implement to improve production flow both individually and as part of a team.
As a Lidar Analyst I received Lidar maps of different areas in England.

Using AutoCAD I would create the project and then the primary datasets that were collected was found in DGN (Microstation file) or scanned drawings. Converting CAD to GIS and geo-referencing was required before extracting data. In most cases, defining a projection or reprojecting the data, clipping and merging would be necessary.

I would export the data to be used on ERDAS Imagine. It would then be edited and digitized.

After this I used various systems finalizing the work before it was sent to a company in Hungary to be used for a different source of GIS.

This wouldn’t require any liaising with other parts of the company but it required a lot of communication between our own team, otherwise information could get lost, or if one small data was edited incorrectly it would result in complications further down the line.

GIS Mapping Analyst (United Kingdom)

·         Separating occupiers on Arc Map.
·         Digitising buildings in Arc Engine and other ESRI systems.
·         Editing current data.
·         Creating the buildings into exact 3D models in Brec.
·    Working in small production teams further developed my communication skills leading to the achievement of common goals.
·         Working to strict deadlines on multiple projects requiring a high level of organisation.
·         Use of all Microsoft packages.
·         Attending and holding meetings.
As a GIS Mapping Analyst I was employed along with five other contractors to create a brand new system for Google and for Architects uses.
It was a 3D spatial system of all the major cities in England.
Firstly we would use spatial data to measure the Lidar for each building; and then divided each structure up into different parts showing where the roof erected; after this was done we would export it out and add it into a new German 3D system called BRec.
BRec would elevate each building to its actual height and make it 3D, we would then edit the height to its exact stature, and also each building would have a different roof type which was also edited.
Then using LandXplorer we would use the satellite images and the mxd from BRec and add them onto the 3D map, which then created a 3D city.
Using high attention to detail we’d edit these over a period of a week until it was faultless.
This required a lot of observation, long hours, co-operation between teams and teamwork to create in 8 months, and it was a new project that we were all proud to be on.
In this role I had to liaise closely with the surveyors on the area in which I worked, as some images and information wasn’t at the standard we wanted and it would have to be retaken. We also worked closely with the Managers as a lot of money was ploughed into the project and we had to do weekly presentations to update everyone on the progress.

Digital Cartographer

Extraction, identification and attribution of digital feature analysis data and digital terrain elevation data from remotely sensed imagery.

·     Scrutinizing all pipe information on the paper plans is correct in TEAR. This would mainly include the pipe’s diameter, laid length, pressure and start/end location, also if the pipe is a service or a main.
·         Liaising and corresponding with customers on a regular basis, this would be mainly by email and phone; this has helped me to create a working relationship between the team and internal and external customers. This will give me a greater understanding of the way they work and problems they face, as I am always looking at ways to continuously improve.
·       An additional target I have to meet is the D+42 compliance, in which I have an active role in trying to reduce the amount of time it takes to add new assets and pipes onto the digital system from the date they were commissioned.

As a Digital Cartographer I worked in the Gas Distribution for Engineering Services. This role requires great responsibility and ownership to ensure the project is completed from commission date within 42 days for connections. I work to targets each week; these targets consist of a target of 95% Quality and a target of 100% performance, we also work constantly on the phones and keep up a good working relationship with our stakeholders. My motivation towards my work and my enthusiasm helps me achieve these performance levels, which I have on numerous occasions.
